A Call To SPEAK
So tonight was a pretty amazing night. I went out to evangelize in Hollywood had a great time met a guy talked with him, prayed with him, fed him, and invited him to hang with us tomorrow. Success God is good! Right??? But, God had even more plans for me tonight!
As I was watching cute proposal videos with Charity Shaun Miller came up to Charity and told her that just down the street at a theater there was a bunch of porn stars at the Sex Awards and that there were tons of girls there she should go and talk to. So Charity left the room quick to see what she was going to do and as I thought about what I would say if she asked me to join her I was just really tired. I was thinking to myself it’s already midnight like it’s crazy to go out this late I should be going to bed. So I pretty much decided I didn’t want to go. Then Charity comes back in the room and obviously all of the rest of the girls are asleep and the only way Charity will go is if another girl goes with her. So as I’m unsure about it Charity says lets just pray. As soon as I closed my eyes I knew that God wanted me to go.
So we left to head down praying as we went. Even on our way there we were invited into a girl club and really God was just showing me how huge of an impact that industry has in Hollywood alone. As we rounded the corner Shaun Miller, who came with us to watch us and make sure we were safe, realized most of the girls were gone. We still went to see what God wanted to do there. At first we just walked by the theater. It seemed like there really was no opportunity to talk to just one person without anyone else overhearing us which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing just an awkward thing. Even though I was completely unsure of how to approach the environment God had highlighted a specific girl to me as soon as we had walked up to the theater and then Charity told me that is who she felt like we should talk to as well. So Shaun Miller kept his distance but me and Charity went up to this girl to see what God wanted to do. No joke we probably picked the worst girl we could have possibly spoken to. As soon as we asked her if we could just pray for her craziness happened! She was very drunk and obviously very hurt by Christianity. She immediately was yelling inappropriate things, trying to some how get us to collapse from our friendly attitude and just trying to get us to react in a negative way. But in reality nothing was going to get to us because we were there to love her not to judge her. So we kept up our cheery happy persona and tried to talk with her obviously not getting through at all. Then there was a photographer named Andy who jokingly said, “Man I wish I could have gotten that reaction on camera!” He was also thinking we couldn’t possibly still be cheery after all the inappropriate things this girl had just yelled. But that was super cool because we actually got to have a conversation with this guy even though I have no idea if anything we said got through to him God still opened that door. He didn’t want prayer there and had never been asked for prayer ever before but was ok with us praying for him on our own later.
Anyways all that to say we left having been completely rebuked by a porn star. We left feeling ok but really realizing that everything we said and did could have all been for nothing and we weren’t sure if anything got across to anyone at all. We prayed on our way back and then when we arrived back where we are staying I just still didn’t feel settled. Charity was ready to start watching videos again but I really felt like for some reason God just wanted me to pray. So I told Charity that and then I prayed and it was crazy because God just totally opened my eyes to what he was doing there outside that theater. He showed me that he highlighted that girl for a specific reason. She was the best most perfect girl for us to talk to because although maybe it didn’t reach her she was yelling and as she was yelling every single person outside that theater was watching us. They were watching our reaction. They saw that even though she was trying to set us off we kept our cool, we still loved her, and we didn’t condemn her. After that everyone watched us the whole time we were there. Others were listening in on our conversation hearing what we would say in reaction to everything that had just happened. Watching to see if we would break or keep our cool. Watching to see if we would try to force Jesus our just show his love. We could have talked to some quite person which could have been great but God wanted us to impact everyone outside that theater. God wanted everyone there to see his character through us. Isn’t that such a neat thing for God to share with me? He wanted me to know that it wasn’t all for nothing and we were able to then pray for all of the people that we knew had been watching us closely.
Going into everything we felt so unequipped and so unsure how to approach the situation but we obeyed God anyways because that’s what we are called to do. Then even after when we felt like nothing had gotten through to anyone God reminded me that that’s not whats important. God calls us to speak what he tells us to and to let him handle to rest. Our job is not to make sure people receive it perfectly but to just do what he tells us to because he has a bigger plan than we can even see. Sometimes God will show us what the purpose of what we did was like he did me but then sometime we have to just trust that he has a plan because he does and it’s a perfect one! He calls us to share his love with everyone we come in contact with and that’s it. It’s not always going to go perfect but that’s ok because God doesn’t call us to perfection. God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called. He has a plan bigger than anything we can imagine and we just need to follow his leading. So although things seemed crazy in the moment God is so good! I feel encouraged and excited that we did exactly what God wanted us to and that he was satisfied with just that.
So next time you are fearful or scared to share with people just remember that God has a plan and a purpose for everything. We may not see it but that’s not what’s important. He just calls you to speak that is seriously it! He will take care of everything else. God has a plan!!! Trust that! :)
